Why have pests suddenly appeared in my property?
Pests want to live undisturbed. So, when they appear, its likely there are more hidden away. An occasional sighting is often nothing to worry about.
Food, water and shelter attract pests into a property, so pests can appear, even when you have never had a problem before. Changes in weather, nearby building work and new access points can all affect pest activity.
Pests move between neighbouring buildings too, so sometimes the issue is outside your control.
Are some pest problems more common at certain times of year?
Pest activity changes throughout the year as temperatures, food availability and breeding cycles change.
For example, wasps become much more noticeable during warmer months. Rodents may look for sheltered spaces as outside temperatures fall. Other insects can become more active when warmer weather provides favourable breeding conditions.
However, heated buildings can also provide suitable conditions for some pests throughout the year.
Can pests move between neighbouring properties?
Unfortunately property boundaries do not stop pests from moving around.
Rodents, insects and some other pests can travel between adjoining buildings, gardens and shared spaces. Terraced properties, flats and commercial units can be particularly interconnected through roofs, walls, drains and service routes.
The source of pest activity may not always be within your property or where it was first noticed.
Why do I keep seeing pests in the same place?
Repeated activity in one area is an indicator to a potential pest problem.
For example, they may be following an established route to food or water. Alternatively, there could be an entry point, nesting area or hiding place nearby.
Simply removing the pests you can see won’t address the underlying cause. Identifying why they favour that particular area and where they are coming from means you can determine the most appropriate response.
Does seeing one pest mean there are more nearby?
Not necessarily, but a sighting might indicate activity elsewhere in the property.
Many pests spend much of their time hidden in roof spaces, wall cavities, cupboards and other undisturbed areas. So, if you see a single pest, it may be a one-off.
If you see pests regularly, it’s something that needs investigating. Consider where you saw the pest, if there are more and whether there are other signs of activity, such as droppings or damage.
What information should I provide when reporting a pest problem?
You do not need to identify the pest yourself. Just explain what you have seen and where you found it to the team here at Xpress Pest Control and we can help.
Any details can help us build a clearer picture. That means any noises, droppings, damage, bites or repeated sightings that you notice. It is also useful to mention when you first spotted the problem and whether activity appears worse at a particular time.
From there, our team can arrange a visit at a time that suits you and identify the pest. We’ll then create a unique treatment plan for your problem and property.
